The questions I was given are as follows:
1. What do you think is essential to bring on a road trip?
This is a good question – I roadtripped a lot this past year. At the core, my list is:
Phone, Computer, Chargers.
Camera if I can find it.
Make-up bag. Toothbrush.
Travel Mug. Tim Hortons coffee, 1/2 French Vanilla.
Homework. Mostly so I feel like I’m responsible but I never actually do it.
Box of CD’s. This lives in my car – yes, it’s oldschool, and it’s an ecclectic selection of leftover burnt disks from various brothers and cousins, but as long as I have The Killers, Barenaked Ladies, and Dr. White’s Christmas Mixes I could go for hours.
Snacks! Apples, granola bars, trail mix, and juiceboxes mostly.
Beef Jerky is a great, but a treat.
Rain jacket. Change of clothes. Vest or Hoodie.
Sleeping Bag. (I love my sleeping bag. Plus it enables me to easily change plans, extend stays or stay places unplanned,
Bible, Notebook, Pen.
Seasonal attire – mittens, snowpants, flip flops, tuque (all seasons), etc.
If it’s my favourite route to a small town 2 hours away (sometimes I go there and back in a day) I add things like:
Bow and Arrows
Because all of those are fun and I never know when I might use them.
2. What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hard question. Today I will say my Mom’s cinnamon buns.
Because they’re cinnamon buns. Made by my Mom. Does it get any better than that?
3. As a blogger, do you prefer screen or texts in print?
I prefer print for novels and study-type books but my computer screen for any kind of writing or blog-reading.
As for nominations, I have one and a half:
Sally’s blog, Hot Dogs & Marmalade, is one of two blogs I make sure to read every post.
I admire her writing; her pieces are thought-provoking while charming, full of love, beauty and honesty.
Sally, your questions are:
1. Keeping with the food theme, what is the most well-received meal in your household? (aka your family’s favourite meal.)
2. What is your favourite hymn, with specific favourite lines?
3. When you were 23, what was your biggest dream?
Secondly, I want to draw attention to Finding Mongolia, the extraordinary account of one family’s resettlement in the ger district of Mongolia. I’m asking nothing with this “Award nomination” but wanted to share the only other blog I follow to-the-post.
Shari’s writing leaves me humbled and sucker-punched every time. But in a good way.
Hers are accounts are ones of
all wrapped up in writing talent I like I have rarely seen. My favourite recent post is called “My Atheist.”
This family has my deepest respect, and you should read their story.
So again, take some time to take a peek at these ladies’ corners of the internet. I guearntee it will be more rewarding and interesting than the cat memes your friends are posting on facebook. And keep sharing the love! Leave a comment or embrace a new friend – because that’s really what I see this award as all about: strenthening community.
