It was all Carson’s idea.
It was a little out of the blue, but the phrase “Can we take family Christmas pictures?” struck me as brilliant.
Once uttered, how could we not?
Now, I’m sure we’ve all had awkward family photos, but I think it’s safe to say our family is in a league of it’s own. We’ve got a knack for bad photos that leaves us grimacing from the moment Mom gets the bright idea to years later when we find the evidence in saved newsletters or ancient church bulletin boards that haven’t been updated since I was 13.
It’s painful. Believe me.
And yep, you heard right on the bulletin boards. The best part of a family in ministry is being a refrigerator child. You know the ones. A family photo (aka “prayer card”) on every Grandma and acquaintance’s fridge to remind them to pray for us. You can imagine our enthusiasm about the whole situation, my brothers and I.
We sometimes had to opt for the ‘individual photos scattered throughout the letter’ strategy, on years no suitable family shot was found.
Exaggeration? I think not…
Yeah. I’d pray for that family too…
But enough history! Back to the point. The excellent plan:
Our own classic family photos. To document and commemorate this season in our Castle!
Christmas sweaters. Fireplace. Smiling faces. What more one look for?
Now, looking at our previous track record, you’d think we’d be pros at the classic shot with a touch of grimace, but you’d be surprised at the delicate balance between naturally awkward and downright goofy!
I’ve decided to let you in and share in our fun a bit tonight. Welcome to…
Behind the Scenes:
Brown Castle Family Photoshoot!
Also thanks to D&L for letting us use the upstairs fireplace, it was perfect and lovely; and to Elise, for manning the shutter and enjoying the session with us. You are each a pleasure to live with!
So Merry Christmas to all,
