I was hoping the 15 hours I have on living in the future would give me the grace I needed to get this posted on Friday. It didn’t happen. So now as my Saturday ends and many of yours begins, here is the photo of the week – complete with a contest of it’s own!
Tell me what you think both the original and secondary purposes or this metal contraption I have seen in several of the hashas (front yards) in the ger districts here. “Seconday purpose” means how I have often observed these things being put to use. Use your common sense, imagination, google or whatever. I don’t care.
Leave me a comment, and the first one to guess right wins their very own postcard from Mongolia, sent and signed by me.
I know. These are the prime goods.
Or, if you’re feeling shy, just take a look at these lil’ faces and say “oh isn’t that nice.”
That’s okay too.

Congratulations, to our winner, Pam!
(I always knew you were a smart one!)
It is indeed an old bed frame but they are almost constantly in use as Trampolines!
Good guesses by all – I’m choosing Pam as the winner as she ws the first one to get BOTH purposes right.
Also, Julie is getting a complimentary postcard as runner-up 😉 She made me grin.
It’s a bedframe? The 2 little girls are adorable! 😉
Yes, it is a bedframe! Bonus points for being first to comment.
I think its primary purpose is a drying rack, and its secondary purpose is a trampoline…
Ah, half right! I’m sure it would make a great drying rack; I didn’t think of that. A make-shift trampoline it certainly is!
Im guessing primary is a bed/bed frame and secondary is a trampoline.
BINGO! WE HAVE A WINNER! You’ve spent some time around kids, methinks…
I think possibly it originally was a harrow for raking the fields smooth before planting and then was turned upside down to sift large rocks out of the dirt and now is a couch! or a trampoline/bed frame..I know my kids used beds as trampolines before we finally got one!! Actually a drying rack sounds good – close to the house so a person can keep a look out for stray goats ready to eat a sheet or pants… How am I doing? ha ha
….
I like the couch train of thought. And yep, you got it with the bed frame/trampoline! Great responses Edith! Pam technically beat you to first prize, but you win on enthusiasm.
It’s a bench for little kids to sit on and look cute. Duh.
Julie, I like you.
Old bed spring mattress framey do hickey thingy!!!! Would live a Mongolian postcard even if I don’t win!! :-). Box 3721 Smithers bc Von 2n0 🙂 🙂 hope alls well Anna!!! Hugs from Smithers back to PG tomorrow! Just spent the evening at Clay and Laura’s for Heidi’s 40th b’day ….Ray Beannie reg Carrie and billy lots of others was a nice evening!!!
Janice! Can’t believe I haven’t sent you one already! Send my greetings to the Spatsizi crew – I really do miss you all. Hope to see you in PG someday sooner than later!
The original purpose of this thing is a culvert sieve. You place it in front of the culvert in a ditch filled with garbage and when spring run- off stops, all the garbage has been caught in front of the culvert, making it easier for the school children to clean up the town. But then, the school children’s parents objected to this blatant use of child labour, so these things were sold for profit as sculptures for the fashionable front lawn. You gaze at it and envision ‘rest.’ and you feel rested. Granted, some people do jump and sit on them. These are the non-artsy crowd. That is my answer, and I’m sticking to it.
